Ways to Stop Picking At Acne

1. Identify high risk areas: Set a limit for how much time you spend looking to mirrors.
2. Blow it off: Inhale deeply. Exhale completely, this can help release tension and create an overall feeling of well-being.
3. Touch if you must: While avoidance of pimples is probably the best choice, some of us "need" to touch the pimple. Gentle pressure or in circular massage can alleviate the urge and tension.
4. Practice Alternate Behaviors: Redirect your energy. Activities such as, exercise, and self-hypnosis can all help squash the impulse to squeeze. Leave your home when the urge to pop is very strong. And avoid popping on public.
5. Scar Scare. Visualize the damage that squeezing or picking produces, like scarring and redness.
6. Pick Up The Phone: If popping and picking is taking over your life, consider contacting a mental health professional.
