Fat Facts in Foods We Eat


Foods that do not contain trans fat
  1. Fresh fruits which include atis, banana, chico, guyabano, jackfruit, marang, melon, papaya, pineapple, pomelo, rambutan.
  2. fresh vegetables such as carrots, eggplant, garlic, ginger, malunggay, mustard, peanuts, radish, sponge gourd, squash, sugar beets, tomatoes, and other leafy and non-leafy vegetables.
  3. legumes like dahi, garbanzons, kidney beans, lentils, mongo, pinto beans, split peas, other legumes.
  4. Plain grains such as rice, old-fashioned oats, corn

Foods that contain natural trans fat
  1. Meats like beef, mutton and pork
  2. Dairy products such as butter, cheese, ice cream, milk, sour cream, whipping cream, yogurt.

Foods with added trans fat

Avoid these leading sources of trans fat if you want to stay healthy.
  1. Cake and brownies mixes
  2. Commercial baked goods such as cakes, cookies, biscuits, pastries and pies
  3. Crackers
  4. Homemade baked goods made with solid shortening (butter, regular margarine or solid shortening)
  5. Fast foods like French fries, fried chicken, fish pies and other deep-fried foods
  6. Frozen meat products
  7. Frozen waffles
  8. Margarine
  9. Microwave popcorn
  10. Solid vegetable shortening
  11. Restaurant foods: deep fried foods, commercial baked goods, grilled sandwiches made with butter, mayonnaise, margarine
